Chicago

Overview

The Corporate Coalition of Chicago, in partnership with Cara Plus and the Chicagoland Workforce Funder Alliance, leads a cohort-based fair chance hiring program for Chicago-area employers through the Fair Chance Hiring Initiative. [FKC1] The program emphasizes peer-to-peer learning, bringing together companies with fair chance experience, nationally recognized subject-matter experts, workforce development organizations and individuals with a criminal record who have successfully navigated employment barriers.

Convening Organization

Established in 2019, the Corporate Coalition was founded by business leaders committed to addressing economic and racial inequities across the Chicago region. The Coalition leverages its expertise to facilitate knowledge exchange among companies working to transform their talent acquisition processes.

Employer Cohorts

The initiative employs a cohort model to create a trusted environment where participating companies share experiences and challenges, learn from experts about potential solutions and receive support from peers who are similarly focused on reducing barriers and expanding opportunities for talent with criminal records.

National Fair Chance Hiring Conference

In collaboration with the Harris School of Public Policy and NORC at the University of Chicago, the Corporate Coalition hosted a national convening on fair chance hiring. Participants from the public and private sectors gathered to explore the impact of recent policy and practice changes, catalyze new research and grow the emerging field by involving scholars and individuals with criminal records in all aspects of the conversation.

Anchor Supporters

Corporate Coalition members, the Robert McCormick Foundation, JPMorganChase and the Chicagoland Workforce Funder Alliance support the Fair Chance Hiring Initiative.
